Tirunarayur Siddhanatheswarar Temple is an ancient Shiva temple at Tirunarayur in Thanjavur district. Shiva is worshipped as Siddha Natheswarar, and the Goddess is Soundarya Nayaki. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, praised by the Nayanmars Thirugnanasambandar and Sundarar in the Tevaram.

🏛 Temple History

The temple is traditionally known as Siddheeswaram and has a strong Chola-period heritage. The temple has a five-tier Rajagopuram, three prakarams and several important sculptures and subsidiary shrines. The temple's traditional history is also associated with Medhavi Maharishi and the birth of Mahalakshmi in this sacred place.

Begin the visit with darshan of Siddhanatheswarar and Soundarya Nayaki.
This is a Paadal Petra Sthalam praised by Thirugnanasambandar and Sundarar, making it important for devotees following the Thevaram tradition.
The temple is west-facing and has a five-tier Rajagopuram.
Do not miss the separate shrine of Soundarya Nayaki.
The temple has notable images of Ardhanareeswarar, Bhikshadanar and Lingodbhavar.
One unique feature is the presence of three Chandikeswarars in a single shrine within the prakaram.
Visit the Brahma Theertham located to the north of the temple.
During Maasi and Avani, the Sun's rays are traditionally said to fall directly on the Moolavar Lingam for three days, making these periods especially interesting for devotees.
The temple is close to Nachiyar Kovil, a major Vishnu temple and Divya Desam, making both temples convenient to combine in one trip.
