Karukudi Sargunalingeswarar Temple is an ancient Shiva temple and one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Sargunalingeswarar, also known as Karukudinathar, and Goddess Advaita Nayaki is the consort. The temple was praised by Thirugnanasambandar in the Thevaram.

🏛 Temple History

The historical name of the place is Marudhanallur. The temple is traditionally believed to be 1,000–2,000 years old. Its principal Shiva Lingam is a Swayambhu Prithvi Lingam made of sand. Tradition also associates the temple with Lord Rama worshipping Shiva before proceeding to Lanka.
