🔱 Temple Significance

This sacred temple is one of the rare temples where the Hindu Trinity—Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and Lord Brahma—are worshipped together. It is also one of the 108 Divya Desams, making it highly significant for Vaishnavites. The temple symbolizes unity among different sects of Hinduism.

🏛 Temple History

Tirukarambanur, popularly known as Uttamar Koil, is an ancient and spiritually significant temple located near Srirangam in Tamil Nadu. The temple’s history is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and dates back to the early Chola period, with contributions from later dynasties such as the Pandyas and Nayaks. According to legend, Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, once became arrogant about his powers of creation. To humble him, Lord Shiva plucked one of Brahma’s five heads. However, this act resulted in the sin of Brahmahatya Dosha (killing a creator), and the skull (kapala) stuck to Shiva’s hand, turning him into Bhikshandar, a wandering mendicant. To rid himself of this sin, Lord Shiva traveled across sacred places seeking alms.
