Dayanidheeswarar Temple is a Paadal Petra Sthalam on the northern bank of the River Kaveri and is praised in the Thevaram hymns of Thirugnanasambandar and Appar. The temple is associated with Ramayana legends involving Vali and Hanuman. Devotees, especially pregnant women, visit the temple praying for safe childbirth

🏛 Temple History

The temple is traditionally associated with the ancient name Tiruvadakurangaduthurai. It is believed to be more than 1,000 years old and is connected with the Chola-era sacred tradition of Kaveri temples. The presiding deity is worshipped as a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam. The temple is also one of the 88 temples administered under Thanjavur Palace Devasthanam.
