Anekadhangavadeswarar Temple, also known as Anegathangavadham, is an ancient Shiva temple in Kanchipuram. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Anekadhangavadeswarar, while Manonmani is identified with Parvati. The temple is a Paadal Petra Sthalam, praised in the Tevaram tradition. Thirugnana Sambandar and Sundarar are associated with hymns celebrating this shrine.

🏛 Temple History

According to temple legend, Vinayaka established the Shiva Lingam here and defeated the demon Kesi. He subsequently arranged the marriage of Kesi's daughter Vallabai with Vinayaka. Kubera is also traditionally believed to have worshipped Shiva here. The temple is one of two Anegathangavadham shrines, and this Kanchipuram shrine is distinguished as Kachi Anegathangavadham.

Begin your visit with darshan of Anekadhangavadeswarar.
The temple is a Paadal Petra Sthalam, so devotees interested in Tevaram should spend time at the shrine.
The temple is particularly convenient to visit along with Kailasanathar Temple, as it lies on the route between Kanchipuram town and Kailasanathar Temple.
Observe the small northern-facing Rajagopuram.
The main sanctum faces east and contains a granite Shiva Lingam.
The temple has a single prakaram, making it a relatively compact temple to explore.
There is an axial Nandi in front of the sanctum.
Look for the traditional Dakshinamurthy, Durga and Chandikeswarar images around the sanctum.
A separate shrine is dedicated to Periya Vinayaga.
Unlike many Shiva temples, there is no separate Parvati shrine in the complex; the Kanchipuram Kamakshi shrine is traditionally regarded as the common Parvati shrine for the city's Shiva temples.
