Thiru Vilanagar Uchiravaneswarar Temple is a Devaram Paadal Petra Sthalam. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Uchiravaneswarar / Thuraikattum Vallal, and Goddess Parvati as Veyurutholi Ammai. The temple is associated with Thirugnana Sambandar.

🏛 Temple History

According to the traditional Sthala Purana, Lord Shiva appeared and helped a devotee cross the overflowing Cauvery River by showing him a safe passage. Because Shiva showed the way to the riverbank, he is worshipped here as Thuraikattum Vallal. Thirugnana Sambandar is also traditionally associated with this temple.
