The City Palace was established after Sawai Jai Singh II founded Jaipur in 1727 and shifted the capital from Amer to the newly planned city. Construction and development of the palace complex continued under Jai Singh II and later rulers.
Over time, successive Maharajas expanded the complex by adding new palaces, courtyards and architectural features. The result is a large royal complex that reflects the changing history and architectural traditions of Jaipur.
