The present Amber Fort was originally built by Raja Man Singh I in 1592. It was subsequently expanded by Jai Singh I and other Kachwaha rulers over the following centuries.
Amer remained the capital of the Kachwaha rulers until the capital was shifted to Jaipur in 1727 during the reign of Sawai Jai Singh II.
In 2013, Amber Fort was included as part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan UNESCO World Heritage Site.
