Apatsahayesvarar Temple at Alangudi is an ancient Shiva temple in Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Shiva is worshipped as Apatsahayesvarar, meaning the deity who protects devotees in times of difficulty. Goddess Parvati is worshipped as Elavarkuzhali.
According to the traditional legend, Shiva consumed deadly poison and protected the world. This is associated with the name Alangudi and the name Apatsahayesvarar, referring to Shiva as the rescuer in times of distress.
The original temple complex is traditionally attributed to the Cholas, while the present masonry structure includes Nayak-period construction from the 16th century. The temple has a five-tier rajagopuram and two prakarams.
