Nachiyar Kovil, also known as Thirunarayur Nambi Temple, has a rich history dating back over 1500 years. The temple was glorified by Tirumangai Alvar, who had a deep connection with this temple. According to legend, Sage Medhavi performed penance here, and Goddess Lakshmi appeared as his daughter. Lord Vishnu came here to marry her, and hence the goddess gained primary importance in this temple. The temple is also famous for the Kal Garuda, a stone idol of Garuda that miraculously increases in weight when taken out in procession.
