The museum was conceived by Lieutenant General Bobby Mathews and developed by the Indian Army's Desert Corps. It was inaugurated on 24 August 2015 by Lieutenant General Ashok Singh. It was established to commemorate the sacrifices of Indian soldiers, particularly those associated with the 1965 war and the Battle of Longewala in 1971.
