πŸ› Temple History

The origins of the temple date back many centuries and it is believed that the shrine has existed since ancient times in the spiritual landscape of Kashi. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva manifested as Kaal Bhairav to destroy arrogance and protect dharma. Legend says that when Lord Brahma developed pride, Shiva manifested Bhairav who removed Brahma’s fifth head as a lesson against ego. Because of this act, Bhairav carried the skull until he reached Kashi where he was finally freed from the curse. Since then, Kaal Bhairav has been regarded as the eternal guardian of Varanasi. The temple houses a powerful idol of Bhairav decorated with silver ornaments and a garland of skull motifs symbolizing divine power and protection.
