Bhimashankar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva appeared here to defeat the demon Bhima. The temple is also associated with the origin of the Bhima River, making it spiritually significant.

According to legend, Lord Shiva took the form of Bhimashankar to destroy the demon Bhima who was troubling devotees. After defeating the demon, Lord Shiva manifested here as a Jyotirlinga. The temple is located in the Sahyadri hills and has been an important pilgrimage center for centuries.
